Finally, two month after we went to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie, I decided to write about it.

It was a great New Year gift (in our Holy Land the screening started on December 31st).

To tell the truth, I was a little afraid of this movie: I’m an avid fan of the books and of the old Soviet series, and, knowing what Guy Ritchie and RDJ can came up with…I was scared.

An I was right to be scared: I REALLY don’t need another fandom in my life ;-) But it is too late. I loved the movie. Blast, I LOVE the movie. And one of the things that I really loved about the movie: both Holmes and Watson were young in it; maybe not in years, but in their hearts. Somehow all movies and series picture them as middle-aged (if not older) men. But, for G-d’s sake, in A Study in Scarlet they both are not even thirty.

The most curious thing: my mind had really quickly “made its mind” about how both the new movie and the old Soviet series can co-exist together – it’s just parallel universes. ;-)

And here are some pictures to compare: Sherlock Holmes (2009) vs. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson (1979-1986) )

Somebody, I'm not going to point a finger (but it was [livejournal.com profile] elefwin), was for a long time trying to push me into writing movie reviews. Something about my becoming rusty... So...

Photobucket

IMPORTANT NOTE: I liked the movie; otherwise I wouldn't be writing all this.
